Liberty Partnerships Program

The Le Moyne College Liberty Partnerships Program is a collaborative project between the New York State Department of Education, Le Moyne College and the Syracuse City School District. First created in 1989 by Governor Mario Cuomo to increase the graduation rate of youth who may be at risk of leaving high school, the Le Moyne LPP Program is one of 41 LPP programs from throughout the state currently funded by the New York State Department of Education. Each year, the Liberty Partnerships Program provides services to approximately 270 Henninger, Institute of Technology at Central and Nottingham High School students.

What We Offer

Personal and Academic advising…Tutoring…Opportunities for internships…Cultural and recreational activities…Social events… The Le Moyne LPP Program offers a wide variety of services and experiences and encourages all of its students to participate. All students have access to the following services:

Advising

LPP has a full-time personal counselor who is always available to meet with students and/or their families. Students also receive frequent academic and career counseling from full-time staff members knowledgeable in such areas as study skills, test taking strategies, course selection and graduation requirements, SAT preparation, Regents requirements, college preparation and selection, and employment skills, strategies, and preparation.

Tutoring

The LPP program employs a staff of professional adult tutors and Le Moyne College students, all of whom work with students on a one-to-one or small group basis to assist students with homework and strengthening of classroom lessons. All tutoring activities take place during the school day in the student’s home school so that students can receive timely reinforcement of in-class skills and lessons.

Exploring and Experiencing

Multiple chances to explore and learn more about themselves and others are offered to all LPP students. Whether it be touring college campuses, visiting area businesses, exploring career opportunities, training for a job, taking a career test, completing an internship, or riding a roller coaster, LPP students can choose to participate in many activities which will broaden their horizons and enrich their lives while having fun!

Graduates Have Said…

“I think LPP is a great program to join, especially if you’re having trouble in a certain class. The tutors will help you understand what you don’t know. It feels as if I’m in a special school, and no matter what I’m working on, when I leave, I do know what I am doing!”

“I would encourage kids in school to join the Liberty Partnerships Program (LPP) because the tutors give you hope when you think you are going to fail and there is always someone there to help you with anything.”
